Reset Cardo G9 Headset: How To Do A Factory Reset on Scala Rider G9

Problems with your Scala Rider G9?  Are they pairing but saying “Rider A is not available?”

We had a customer who had bought a Scala G9 Powerset from us and then somehow got one of the units “confused.”  The 2 units would no longer connect on Channel A (even when paired) but worked fine on Channel B.  This meant he was not able to do a 3-way or 4-way pairing / conversation so he brought it in to have us help.  ”Restoring” to factory default settings cured his G9 symptoms.  You may have a different issue but if your Scala Rider G9 is acting up, try this.  To restore to factory default you must first “reset the pairing” and then do almost the same thing but using a different button.  See below.

From page 24 of the user manual…

Reset Pairing
To delete your paired devices (not including “One+8” pairings):
1.  Verify that your G9 is turned ON and in Standby mode (single
BLUE flash every 3 seconds).
2.  Press and hold the Mobile Button for at least 6 seconds. The G9
will first flash RED. Continue to hold the button until the RED
and BLUE lights begin rapidly alternating.
3. Press and hold the Volume Up Button for 2 seconds.
4.  The PURPLE light will flash 5 times and then the
scala rider G9 will turn OFF, indicating that the Reset was
successfully completed.

If this does not cure what ails your G9 unit try repeating the process BUT instead of pressing and holding the Volume Up button in Step 3 above press and hold the Voice Connect button (middle button on the side) for 2 seconds.  Step 4 will happen in the same way and your Cardo G9 will be restored to factory defaults.

    • Ha Ha. The default is definitely English so somebody must have been playing with it before it was shipped to you. Scala G9 has the WORST voice menu we have seen and know your frustration. This is the pathetic description the manual gives on how to access the Scala Rider G9 voice menu.

The Voice menu is available in several languages.
      1.  While on standby, press and hold the Channel “A” button and
Channel “B” button simultaneously for 2 seconds while on
      2.  After entering the menu, follow the voice instructions in
English or choose your preferred language

Actually you need to press the 2 buttons for EXACTLY 2 seconds, not more, not less.
After you hear it say something to you in french press A once.

Then wait for it to cycle through some different languages. When you hear it say “English” Press A and it should be changed. You might have to listen to some more settings to skip them all and then exit the voice menu.

  1. I ride with friends who have G4 units and we would try get up to four people linked. At some point the units got confused and we couldn’t get them to pair at all. Using the reset described above I was able to clean out both of my G9 units and then we got the G4 units to pair up. Great post. Thanks.
